There is no sweeter time than being present when God saves a person. It’s just cool! I have been there for a few of my friends who are now currently church members. To tell you the truth there is just something, that I don’t even know how to explain, that ties you into a deeper relationship with a person when you are there when they come to know the Lord.
1 Corinthians 1:4 I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus,
Discipleship must be at the heart of evangelism. How is discipleship different than the way we do evangelism? We are coming out of a day where we have tried mass evangelism, based on prebaked presentations and door hangers. Discipleship means investing yourself in someone. My friends who I saw God save spend time weekly with me in the study of scripture. I did not stop investing when the decision was made and the soul was saved.
What we see in the book of Corinthians is that Paul genuinely cares both for the believers and their progress in the gospel. Our trouble in evangelism is that we see it as a duty of the church, not in light of its personal aspects. We evangelize because we care for people, not that we somehow are compelled by duty.
Today I give thanks for my friends, knowing that their souls are more than numbers on a church report.
