I agree with Joel Osteen?

Your best life now — God wants you to have your best life now. That’s what I hear from preachers who garner the attention of the main stream media. It seems to be the message that will attract a crowd. It is the message that will gain job security for a minister because people want the good life.

I don’t agree with the philosophies of many health and wealth guys… but I agree that God wants you to have your best life now. The question we must ask is what does your best life now look like? Is your best life now a life of luxury and convenience? Is your best life now a life of power and pride?

Sadly, I think we have allowed the values of the world to become our values. We think a good life is a life where we are financially endowed. God shows that a good life is lived in daily dependence of Him. We think that greatness is found in stature and power. God has shown that greatness in found in gentleness and humility.

In the second chapter of 1 Corinthians, Paul draws a contrast between earthly wisdom and heavenly wisdom. “Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away. But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory.”

What we learn in this passage is that God has revealed His wisdom, the truth of Jesus Christ crucified, for our glory. Our best life now is when we define our values by God’s values. It is where we find glory in God’s work, not in our vanity.

Are you living your best life now… your best life is not a life lived in pursuits of the values of the world, but your best life is a life lived in pursuit of the wisdom of heaven, Jesus Christ.

Amen Wes. That is why I really like Osteen. He teaches that our best life comes from obedience to God's Word. I also love that each week he encourages his viewers to “get into a good Bible-based church in their area so that they can grow in the things of God.”
God did not give us this life to waste nor di he create us for defeat. Jesus paid a precious price for us.Believe that and then use what He has given you to make a difference in your life and in the lives around you. If you do this, you will not only live forever, but you will live the best life you can live NOW. That's what Osteen says, and I believe it!

    Don in Texas,

I appreciate your comment and the spirit of it. I would caution any person about Mr. Osteen in that he does not deal with sin. He often is unwilling to stand on the exclusivity of Christ and his preaching often promises fulfillment of earthly things and not heavenly things.

We both share the view that God's desire is for us to live abundantly here on this earth and eternally. I think our preaching differs in what we consider to be our best life now.
