We love Pasadena! It has been home to our family for the last 5 years. Our girls have grown from kindergarteners to preteens here. We have loved this community and the relationships we have built here. I will never forget the teachers and friends who have loved on our children. I love that my sweet daughter has grown to speak Spanish bilingually. I love the distinct community that we have seen Pasadena grow to become.
We love Memorial Baptist Church. I have been privileged to be the senior pastor here. I hope through my leadership the church has grown to follow God and reach its community. This church has loved our family. Through the ministry of this church both of my children have come to trust Jesus Christ and be baptized. This church has become family to us as we have lived life with them. I am so thankful for the deep friendships that will not be lost. I am thankful for every meal, every note, and conversation across this body of Christ. I am thankful for how MBC has become a unified body serving as the hands and feet to the communities of LaPorte, Pasadena, and Deer Park.
It is with great sadness that I announced today in our morning service that we are moving. About a year ago, we felt God placing on our hearts the calling to go. We originally recoiled from this call as Pasadena and MBC have been good to us. We began to pray over what we believe God had called us to do, and He gave us piece after piece of confirmation. I want to be clear that we are not leaving because of any conflict or situation. MBC is a godly and healthy church whom we were privileged to serve. We are moving because we have sensed the hand of God direct us.
It is with great joy that we look forward to the next adventure God is sending us to. When we sensed God’s call for our family, I prayed that God would make our destination crystal clear. He did. We had churches contact us from Corpus Christi, Tx to Illinois. I told my wife at several points that I did not feel right about any of these churches. God was not sending us to Corpus, Virginia, or Illinois.
One day we came in contact with First Baptist Church of Vidalia, Louisiana. Knowing nothing of this church I felt the Spirit of God place a peace on me that made his will clear. As we learned more and more about this church we found a body who was passionate about reaching their community. The more we knew about Vidalia the greater peace and calling God gave us. What we didn’t know was that God was weaving the same story behind the scenes with the pastor search team.
Last weekend I accepted God’s move and FBC’s invitation to become pastor in Vidalia. We are excited about the relationships and ministry our next days hold.
To my friends at MBC. Thank you for being family. Thank you for letting me be your pastor.
To my friends in Vidalia, we are looking forward to what God will do as we serve him together.
