Recently our staff has been talking about who we are as a church. Our mission statement says “We exist to connect people to God, to each other, and to the world”. Our logo has the iconic Vidalia/Natchez bridge with the cross of Jesus Christ at the center.
As concepts these are great. We want to connect people to God. Whether through evangelism or discipleship, we want to see people grow to know the God who has given us life. We want to connect people to each other. Fellowship is essential to who we are. We want to connect people to the world. We should work tirelessly to reach Vidalia and the world for Jesus.
The identity we are thinking through as a staff, is who we are to our city, parish and surrounding area. Within the name of our church is the first mission field of the church, Vidalia. We are a church in Vidalia. That said, we strive to be a church for Vidalia. FBC Vidalia is a church FOR Vidalia.
We want to be for our public schools.
We want to be for our civil servants.
We want to be for our police and firefighters.
We want to be for people struggling with addictions.
We want to be FOR our city.
Will you begin to pray for our staff as we look for opportunities to serve this city? Will you pray for your place to serve?
It is my heart that when people talk about our church, they will talk about how our church serves this city.
First Baptist Church of Vidalia is a church FOR Vidalia.
